Requirements For Singapore Passport Photo

By Larry Bent

Photos used for official government-issued files generally follow strict rules. This is also true for pictures for passports issued in Singapore. The Southeast Asian country would reject passport applications right away if the photo attached doesn't adhere to its photo standards. If you're requesting for a Singapore passport, make sure to follow instructions from the Singapore Passport Agency precisely to avoid rejection of your application. Better yet, have an expert photographer take your photo. They know precisely how to take a Singapore passport photo.

The standard picture size for a Singaporean passport is similar to the size used in other Asian nations, also in Italy, Australia, and Britain, which is 3.5 centimetres x 4.5 centimetres. It must be borderless in sharp and clear matte or semi-matte texture. You would need to submit two copies to the Agency or submit a 514x400 pixel digital copy in JPEG format in a CD. The file must not go over 60 KB.

In taking a passport photo, make sure that you're looking straight into the camera and have your eyes wide open. Your head should be upright and the top of your shoulders should be visible. Your face in the picture must be at the centre and should measure 2.5cm x 2.5cm from the crown of your head to the chin. Birthmarks, tattoos, moles, or any facial feature must be seen and should not be altered.

Hats and other headwear should be removed in the picture, unless they are habitually worn for cultural, racial, or religious customs. And if you wear any headwear in the photo, it should not obstruct your face in any way. If you ordinarily wear eyeglasses, you can wear them in the photo but the frame shouldn't cover your eyes or the lens should not capture reflection from the flash. Tinted lenses, like sunglasses, are not allowed. The photo must be taken against plain white background, though you can use a slightly grey backdrop if your hair colour or head cover is in the same colour.

passport photo singapore requirements, which are the same as the visa photo requirements, are very exacting. Any change from the standards given will be rejected. The Agency will even deny poor quality photo prints so make sure your photo is clear and has no discolouration or mark on it. You can take your picture yourself using a digital camera, but to be sure that your photo follows all requirements, turn to a professional photography service instead.
